The beacon in the 90-plus
feet tall iron lighthouse was first lit in April 1877. A lighthouse keeper who
lived in an adjacent house, tended to the light. The light was later automated
and finally went dark in March 1950.
East Point Lighthouse

The East Point Lighthouse was built in 1849 at the mouth of
the Maurice River. For many years it was known as the Maurice River Lighthouse.

Barnegat Lighthouse

present lighthouse is the third on the tip of the island. The first lighthouse
was a 40 foot masonry tower constructed in 1834.
